#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX, to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion has been celebrated as #Juneteenth β€” a combination of "June" and "19th" β€” for over 150 years.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of ending slavery in the United States. Today, annual Juneteenth celebrations have been going on for over 12 years within Tift County! We are thankful for continued growth to bring unity within our community! ❀️
