Where City Optical Inc is now, on the corner of Love and 2nd Ave, was once the home of Brooks Drug Store. Many have fond memories of getting a Coke Float or Chili Dog after school!
You can also see a bit of Hotel Wilton in the back. Pre-interstate, when US Highway 41 was a main north-south route to Florida, it was one of the busiest tourist sites in Tifton and known statewide. We love that Tifton is still a stop 🥰

#FlashbackFriday with a little story time from ABAC`s Georgia Museum of Agriculture!
When Henry Tift married Elizabeth "Bessie" Willingham in 1885, he built her a beautiful yet modest home using the finest materials available. Legend has it that Henry personally selected every board from his sawmill that went into its construction. Over the years, the home changed with the times. After serving as the Tift family residence, it later became rental offices and apartments. Then, in 1979, a devastating fire caused significant damage to the second floor.
But the story didn`t end there. In 1980, the home was carefully dismantled into sections and moved to storage before being transported once again in 1982 to the Georgia Museum of Agriculture, where it was meticulously reassembled and restored. Can you imagine moving an entire historic home in pieces?
Today, visitors can step inside Henry and Bessie`s home on a guided tour and experience a piece of Tifton`s history firsthand. If only those walls could talk. ❤️
